Hot Potatoes is web 2.0  and one of the free tools for creating interactive language exercises for the world wide web.

Hot Potatoes was created by the Research and Development team at the University of Victoria Humanities Computing and Media Centre. Fisrtly, it was an software suite from HalfBaked Software Inc, but later with the version 6 in 2009, Hot Potatoes became free for everyone.

It seems quite old compared to 2019, but its content is very rich compared to its appearance. And also the interface is quite complicated to me.

   Quite like Quizlet and KAhoot,  the Hot Potatoes is quite similar to the quiz sites , just like the old versions.

 

In Hot Potaotes, you have 5 options to design your events, as well as the ‘The masher’ option, which allows you to use all the activities together.

The options are JCloze, JMatch, JQuiz, JCross and JMix. And the additional one, The Masher.

In order to understand it’s use clearly, here are two examples:

When you download and open Hot Potatoes, you should choose one of the options. Here, I am choosing JMatch. In JMatch, basically you create your match activity.  For creating this activity, I’ve dealt with food and their colors. 

*In this gif, I made a mistake to write right items not in order, but later, I’ve realized that I should  have put in an order.*

And secondly, I’ve created JCloze. It is a gap-filling activity. I’ve used the same topic to create. 

I’ve wrote my sentences and then I choosed the words to make a gap. I’ve add clue and altarnative answers for the word.

And lastly, I inserted my activity and tried in HTML link.
